Check out the Honda Pilot SUV Towing Capacity for each model, speed transmission, and wheel traction. Learn about the Honda Pilot Towing Capacity. Let’s review the 2022 Honda Pilot towing capacity, 2021 Honda Pilot towing capacity, and 2016 Honda Pilot towing capacity. How to set up to maximize the towing capacity. Let’s review What is the towing capacity of a Honda Pilot? and the Honda Pilot EPA-estimated.

The towing capacity is the greatest weight that you can safely pull. The Honda Pilot Towing Capacity varies depending on how it is set up. Towing capacity varies by model; thus, you may have to select a configuration depending on the configuration with the needed towing capability for Honda Pilot.

What is the Towing Capacity of a Honda Pilot?

In the following paragraphs let’s review What is the Towing Capacity of a Honda Pilot.

The Honda Pilot’s towing capacity is between 3,500-5,000 pounds depending on the speed of automatic transmission and wheel traction selected. As you will see below the Honda Pilot towing capacity depends on the engine, transmission, and additional package for towing.

The Honda Pilot V6 engine with 6-speed automatic transmission is present in the models’ Honda Pilot LX, Honda Pilot EX, and Honda Pilot EX-L.

The 2021 Honda Pilot has a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds when properly configurated.

Honda Pilot Touring and Honda Pilot Elite are equipped with a V6 engine with 9-speed automatic transmission.

The Honda Pilot drivetrain sends power to the car’s wheels in 2 different configurations: 2WD and AWD.  Honda Pilot is equipped with Intelligent Traction Management activated in presence of snow in 2WD models, and by the presence of snow, sand, and mud in AWD models. This can make a significant difference in how the Honda Pilot handles in rain and snow or on unpaved roads.

The Honda Pilot’s stability control works with the traction control to enhance the car’s road-holding functions, regardless of its powertrain. However, if the best grip is what you are looking for, all-wheel and four-wheel drive systems tend to perform better on wet roads, and it is the Honda Pilot AWD (All-Wheel Drive).

Honda Pilot 2WD (Two-Wheel Drive also known as 4×2) systems are featured on Honda Pilot model Honda Pilot LX, Honda Pilot EX, Honda Pilot EX-L, and Honda Pilot Touring.

The engine of the Honda Pilot 2WD sends power to two of the Honda Pilot’s wheels while allowing the other two to turn. Because the engine does not have to use power to drive all four wheels, and because two-wheel-drive systems weigh less than four-wheel-drive systems, the Honda Pilot 2WD is lighter and more fuel-efficient.

However, the towing capacity of the Honda Pilot will depend on the traction system. So, Honda Pilot AWD (models with four-wheel drive) is equipped to achieve a higher towing capacity.

The maximum towing capacity for Honda Pilot AWD models is 5,000 lbs. The maximum towing capacity for Honda Pilot 2WD models is 3,500 lbs. For towing activities, you will need the accessory towing kit, trailer harness, and hitch ball.

Another important data point to consider is the Honda Pilot’s fuel economy in different situations (such as city, highway, and combined). This is known as EPA-estimated where each vehicle is labeled with a fuel economy estimate.

The new EPA fuel economy label compares the fuel economy and air emissions of one vehicle model to all others on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the best). The Honda Pilot 2WD base model has an EPA-estimated 20/27/23 (city/highway/combined), while the base model Honda Pilot LX with AWD has a slightly lower EPA-estimated of 19/27/22 (city/highway/combined).

Up to 2022, the Honda Pilot does not offer a hybrid model. Check out Honda Pilot features here.

About Ward Greenway

Since I was 5 years old, I remember being inside my father's pop-up camper crossing the USA. My passion for RVs and Campers grew until I graduated in Mechanical Engineering (Tennessee). Then, I took my passion to the next level. Because I wanted to improve the design and engineering of the RVs I enjoyed them so much. I have been lucky to work for Central RV New Zealand, Jayco Corporation Pty Ltd (Australia), Forest River Inc., and Mercury Marine, as a Mechanical Design Engineer. I have seen and improved hundreds of RV floor plans. Nowadays, I enjoy RV living full time in my Mallard travel trailer and the joy of meeting new friends along the way who help me put the best on CamperOutdoor.com
